Vivian’s Blog #4: Month #1 at InsuredTY

In the blink of an eye, it’s already been about 4 weeks, or a month, into my internship at InsuredTY. Going into this with zero to none experience or knowledge about the ins and outs of insurance, I feel like I’ve come so far. One of my favorite and most cherished parts of this internship is the ability to explore what I want to. I’ve cultivated experiences and enjoyed my time doing so this month.

There are two different types of work that I’d like to focus on when reflecting on my work at InsuredTY this month.

First is learning and development work, including things like learning what life insurance is, what are the different types, and also receiving certifications that are relevant to my coursework and relevant to my career down the line. These certifications include Contextual Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Inbound Marketing, and much more. In addition to the official learning and development work, I also receive passive knowledge learning from Tim. These include things like his organizational nature, speaking from a very mathematical perspective about how to break down things and see the value within each aspect of our work. Additionally, this includes Tim being always open to questions and helping all of us understand why we have to do certain things and what value it can drive to InsuredTY. I also appreciate the openness and Tim’s accepting of suggestions, which makes me also feel like I’m making a difference and a part of something where I have value.

The second type of work is my personal contributions to InsuredTY. In the beginning, this was mostly about generating leads so that we have a baseline target audience. Then it developed into social media, which is my favorite! I had the opportunity to play a part in logo and font designs, which is a real-life application of the branding classes I take at school. It was a very full-circle feeling to see what I love to study being applied and useful in real life contexts. Within social media, I also branched out into growth and trying to experiment with Facebook as well. Social media growth is not a one-day project, so this is something I will continuously be working on. Building off of what I learned in the Hubspot Inbound Marketing course, social media engagement and growth is our way of attracting potential leads. This is a cornerstone of all marketing teams, and I was very excited to be a part of it.

Another type of work that I’ve been getting more into is blog writing, which is enhancing my writing skills. Along with this, I’ve also had my first experience with Squarespace, the website tool that acts as a supplement to our brand presence on other social platforms. Our website is slowly coming together, and we are working hard to come up with valuable resources to make sure that our potential customers and leads feel like InsuredTY is a resource for them. This helps with generating content, and hopefully engages us with our potential customers.

After these pieces are more solidified, we are looking for ways to delight potential customers. These include things like community events, and giveaways that we are planning to implement across social platforms. We are hoping that these aspects will keep customers loyal to InsuredTY, and that InsuredTY stays top-of-mind to our target audiences.
