Introducing Lina, our new Social Media / Sales Intern
Hello! My name is Lina. I’m an International Marketing student at Baruch College and I will be working with InsuredTY as a Social Media / Sales Intern for the coming months. In my free time I love to dance. In fact, I have an Instagram where I post Kpop dance covers. You can check it out @lina.dances! That account is actually what got me into the world of marketing. Little did I know, the things that I did for fun could actually be a career. I’m super excited to be part of InsuredTY to continue my journey and learn more about digital and international marketing.
InsuredTY is an insurance service whose mission is to help Chinese immigrant families with insurance and investments. I think the service it provides is incredibly very meaningful. Coming from a family whose parents don’t speak English, I understand how hard it is for immigrants to find services and opportunities.
I’m currently in my senior year. I’ve held a couple of marketing positions in the past, mainly working with social media and content creation. I’ve also done brand management and a little bit of partnership marketing so hopefully some of those skills can come in handy while working with InsuredTY. As I soon to be a college graduate, I’m looking for entry level positions as well as other marketing internships in areas I haven’t yet explored. Such include customer success, marketing analytics, email marketing, and product management.
When I first entered college, I was actually going to become an East Asian Studies major. I love learning about East Asian culture, history, literature, and language. Those were some of my favorite classes back in high and now too. However, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do with that major before stumbling upon Baruch’s International Marketing track. Reading over the major description, I immediately knew that this major was worth a try. International Marketing allows me to use my knowledge and passion for East Asian Studies to provide better service and opportunities to more people. Marketing allows me to think outside of the box and that’s something I really enjoy doing.
I grew up along the East River. I live by the river and went to school by the river. I spent most of my childhood days in Chinatown. It was the place that made me feel most comfortable, where my parents felt most comfortable. A place where I didn’t have to translate for my parents.
Working the SDLC way is when you break down a big project into individual steps. We start off with planning, then defining, designing, building, testing, and finally deployment. Following through these steps, we ensure that the product or service is of high quality and completed in a timely matter. It’s a way of organization and management.
Working Agile is when you focus on smaller portions, one task at a time. This allows workers to pay more attention to detail and ensure that they are on the right path, eliminating the possibility of starting over entirely from square one if anything goes wrong. Working Agile also makes work more manageable and less overwhelming.
