Sales Strategy Review: Jewelry

1) How is working similar to school? how is it different

Work is similar to school in many ways. There is a hierarchy, someone above you who assigns tasks that you must complete. You are often graded on these tasks and expected to learn and grow as you complete them. Nonetheless work and school are two very different things. Work is primarily result oriented, it matters less how you do things as long as you get the job done and on time. At work you also more often have other people depending on you whether it is your boss, your team, or even your employees. School is more focused on the journey, effort plays a part in how we are assessed. Although education has recently started putting more of a focus on teamwork and group activities, the final assessment is usually heavily personalized.

2) What communication skills did you develop?

Definitely learning how to communicate with customers. I learned how to assess what a customer is looking for by asking the right questions and doing a lot of listening. Communication is not only about the spoken word, gaze and body language plays a big part in conveying a message.

3) What can you improve in the future to continue pursuing a successful career?

Learning how to share the work and let each person do their part. It may be true that if you want something done right do it yourself, but sometimes if you want something done at all you have to let other people take part. People who run alone run faster, but people who run together run further.
