My first four weeks at InsuredTY

My first four weeks working at InsuredTY have been a very positive experience. I’ve been able to try out many of the various duties required for selling insurance, and I feel this has prepared me to find actual customers. During the first week I developed my leads list, this wasn’t too difficult as I have a large network of connections in the area. I went through many of my old contacts from swimming and school and tried to select people I thought would be most receptive. Soon after this I was given my first task related to cold outreach and marketing a product. Some of the other local interns and I were tasked with reaching out to parents with kids who were grades 4-12. Fortunately, I know a lot of parents with kids in this age range and it wasn’t too hard for me to find their contact information. This was a constructive experience as I was able to practice my presentation and marketing skills over the phone. There were a fair number of parents who seemed receptive to the idea and heard me out for the entire pitch. Overall, I think the cold outreach section of the job was good practice for selling actual insurance. During the calls where I spoke with people I was able to see what it’s like to have to convince people that your service is both useful and credible. This isn’t easy, but by doing a lot of calls I was able to devise better strategies for convincing people. Another task I spent a fair amount of time doing was making more Linkedin connections. For this, I tried to focus on people in the Moco area who may be able to help us create more leads in the future. Over the past month I’ve gone from around 350 connections to over 700, and I still have many invitations pending. I’ve enjoyed being able to come to the WeWork office and meet with fellow employees and Tim. Actually seeing people’s faces and being in person has a big impact on how I see the company. It’s much easier to visualize the company mission and my fellow employees by spending time at our office.
