Internship 101: What I learned about working professionally this summer!
How is working similar to school? How is it different?
Working is similar to school as in we are assigned work and given a specific deadline to complete our work. We are also always learning while working. For example, Tim would assign us a task and expects us to know and complete it by the end of the week. It is different from school because you don’t get paid to learn in school. Meanwhile, you can get paid for your work and time at your job or internships.
2. What communication skills did you develop?
I am able to confidently speak up about my ideas and ask questions when I have one. It is hard for me to speak up in an environment that I’m not familiar with so the experience definitely helps me. During our weekly meetings, each one of us are asked if we have any questions or concerns and it’s the perfect opportunity to say what’s on my mind.
3. What can you improve in the future to continue pursuing a successful career?
I still want to continue working on my communication skills. It’s the one skill that I feel like I can always improve on more. Other things I can improve on are spending more time on my work rather than making sure everything is completed on time.
