Thanh’s Blog: Internship 101- What I learned about working professionally this summer

How is working similar to school? How is it different?

Working is similar to school because I am given a certain task that I have to accomplish. For school the tasks are homework and classwork which I need to do to get a good grade. For work the tasks are certain things I need to fulfill for my certain position to help the company. Personally, I feel that the difference for my work tasks is that they actually have an important result which is putting content out for the company and getting customers.

What communication skills did you develop?

While interning for InsuredTY I developed a lot more professional communication skills by talking to customers in various ways such as emails, text, and direct calls. I also practiced my written communication skills by writing a lot of blogs. Also by discussing marketing and sales strategies with my team members I learned many new things about marketing and sales.

What can you improve in the future to continue pursuing a successful career?

In the future I would like to get better at connecting to pep[;e as that is beneficial for getting customers and getting people to like your company. I would also like to improve my marketing and sales skills so I can implement them for my future positions. Lastly, by learning more about marketing and sales I can help develop a stronger online and in-person presence which will be beneficial for myself and my company.
